As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to create unpredictable economic hardship for children and families throughout Kansas, the Rudd Foundation is pleased to provide immediate financial support to the Kansas Food Bank and its “Food-4-Kids” program. With the news that food pantries across the state are running low in the face of overwhelming demand, the Rudd Foundation wanted to assist the Kansas Food Bank in its mission to provide “compassionate hunger care” for those in need during these unprecedented times.
“Food donations have dropped to almost zero since this pandemic began in March,” said Brian Walker, President and CEO of the Kansas Food Bank. “With our inventory running lower than usual, this generous financial contribution by the Rudd Foundation will allow us to provide over 50,000 meals for Kansas children and families in need during these difficult times.”
Leslie Rudd, who endowed the foundation and passed away in 2018, always valued his Kansas roots. As part of his efforts, he wanted to support the hard-working people of Kansas for helping make his numerous family businesses, including Standard Beverage and the Leslie Rudd Investment Company, so successful. With that in mind, he founded the Rudd Foundation so he, in turn, could give back to the people of Kansas. These family businesses continue to provide the means for the foundation to provide 75 college students the financial support to attend college in the state of Kansas this fall (through the Rudd Scholarship program), and now to also support Kansas children and families through the Kansas Food Bank’s “Food-4-Kids” program.
“The unexpected layoffs and furloughs caused by COVID-19 have created difficult financial choices for Kansas families,” said Walker, “but with the help of the Rudd Foundation, we hope to ease that burden just a little bit by putting some food on the table.”
