Wichita Foundation Launches Scholarship Program for Underserved Demographics

The Rudd Foundation on Friday announced a $400,000 scholarship program to help Kansans who quality for a federally funded Pell Grant to attend Wichita State University, Emporia State University or Fort Hays State University. Pell Grants are typically awarded to students of low-income families. About 20 scholarships will be awarded in the program’s first year. “It’s our hope that we can continue to find those diamonds in the rough,” says Peter Najera, President of the Rudd Foundation.

The Rudd Scholarship is a renewable, 4-year program that covers any remaining cost of attendance after all other aid, grants, and scholarships are applied to a student’s account. Cost of attendance only includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, and room and board. By removing financial barriers to a college education, chosen scholars are expected to achieve a high level of excellence on campus in preparing themselves to be leaders in their profession and in their communities after graduation.
